My name is Rhiannon. I was on a long hospital stay at the GCUH, hours away from home due to a high-risk pregnancy…but not even two weeks into the stay on July 3rd 2025 my life forever changed when my little boy decided to come at just a tiny 26 weeks. This was the start of a very long NICU stay. I felt clueless and hopeless not knowing how I would afford rent at home while also finding and paying for long term temporary accommodation, food and essentials near GCUH. I was so terrified for what the NICU stay would hold and how my baby boy would progress.
The Social Worker at NICU had been amazing and The Mooring jumped to action right away and organised an apartment before I was discharged from the GCUH. They also organised a goodie bag and some lovely frozen cooked
meals which helped so much in that time. Honestly the apartment became my home away from home, a place where I could go to rest and relax after hours spent by my babies side in the NICU, it became my safety net for just under 3 months. The lovely ladies Lisa and Georgia always checked in and asked if I needed any assistance with anything.
Thanks to the Mooring this whole experience became a lot easier to get through with everything they did and supplied. We are back in our home town and hospital now, and just over a week away from being at our home. Thank you so much for everything.
