The Mooring drops anchor at GCUH
Gold Coast University Hospital social workers have joined with Southport Church of Christ to give patients’ families some much-needed stability in a time of crisis.
The Mooring has 2 three-bedroom, fully-furnished unit’s within walking distance of the hospital, which is used by out-of-towners while a family member is in intensive care.
Social workers from the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit and Children’s Critical Care Unit refer families to a team of trained volunteers from Southport Church of Christ, who connect a patient’s visiting family with practical help such as accommodation, meals and transport.
ICU Social Worker Arlene Morley said the initiative eased the burden for families who often found themselves in a chaotic situation suddenly.
